Hello Everyone!
As I begin 2025 (I realize we are very well into 2025 at this point), I know my life is in a very different place than it was 365 days ago! 2024 was a year of putting down roots and settling into life in Chilliwack, community, and working at Hungry For Life.
The end of January marks one year of working at HFL and wow what a year it has been. I want to do a little year-in-review of sorts to share some of the highlights from working this last year and additionally to share my deepest gratitude for enabling me to be in this role through your support, encouragement and prayers.

Beginning the Journey
In January 2024, I reached 75% of my monthly support goal, allowing me to officially begin part-time office hours at HFL. The transition into this new role brought its share of challenges, as I learned to navigate my responsibilities and adjust to the weight of leadership. Thankfully, I was met with open arms by the incredible staff and coworkers who made me feel at home from the very beginning.
The first six months were all about learning—grasping processes, understanding concepts, taking on new tasks, and overcoming obstacles. I worked on supporting the Leadership Team as best I could, figuring out how to approach challenges, and asking countless questions to gain confidence and clarity in my role.
First HFL International Trip
In June, I completed my in-house team leader training, and by July, I had the opportunity to take my first trip with HFL. We visited one of our international partners in Ensenada, Mexico, and witnessing their work firsthand was an eye-opening experience. Seeing the partnership between a Canadian church team and the local field partner flourish and impact lives deeply was inspiring. It gave new meaning to my administrative work, connecting it to the tangible impact happening around the world.
Fundraiser Night Success

September through November was focused on preparing for our annual fundraiser—a significant milestone for HFL. We curated over 150 silent auction items, ensuring each had detailed descriptions, photos, and proper CRA documentation. The gala welcomed more than 400 attendees and raised an astounding $230,000 to support HFL operations, allowing us to ensure that 100% of project donations continue to go directly to the projects themselves. The night was filled with excitement as we shared ambitious goals for 2025.
Ending the Year Strong
November and December brought new challenges, with budget planning, strategic development for 2025, and wrapping up the year with our final board meeting. Of course, the season wouldn’t have been complete without celebrating the holidays, including our much-anticipated staff Christmas party.
Looking Ahead to 2025
As we step into 2025, HFL remains committed to our vision of fostering thriving global communities. This year, we’re sharpening our focus on International Leadership Development for our partners. We believe that without equipping these leaders, even the best projects won’t achieve lasting impact. By supporting and developing their leadership skills, we can ensure sustainable, transformative change in their communities.
On the practical side, rolling out these plans takes time, dedication, and collaboration. This year, much of my work will involve assisting the Leadership Team in implementing these strategies while continuing to support day-to-day operations.
Additionally, I’m involved in HFL’s social enterprise, Fullwell Leadership, which serves Canadian non-profits by helping them develop strong leadership and organizational health. I spend a significant portion of my time coordinating with clients, drafting agreements, and providing administrative support to our Director of Operations and Executive Director.
A Personal Update
On a personal note, I’m thrilled to share some exciting news—Caleb and I got engaged at the end of November! He planned such a thoughtful and romantic day, recreating our first date, taking me out for brunch, visiting one of our favourite coffee shops, and reading me a heartfelt poem that ended with him on one knee. Saying “yes” was easy, and we couldn’t be happier!
We celebrated the day with photos (captured by friend Zack) and spent the evening sharing the news with family and friends. Over the past couple of months, we’ve begun wedding planning and are eagerly looking forward to our wedding in May. Thank you to everyone who has celebrated with us—we feel so loved and supported in this season.
December was filled with joy, from Christmas parties to spending time with loved ones. We visited Alberta to be with my family and spent Christmas Day with Caleb’s family. It was a special time of connection and rest.
Gratitude
I’m overjoyed to share that I reached my fundraising goal for 2024 and was able to increase my support at the start of this year. This wouldn’t have been possible without each of you who has contributed, encouraged, and prayed for me along the way. Thank you for making it possible for me to do what I do.
As we step into 2025, I’m praying that God blesses you richly for your generosity and faith.
Love always,
Char
